Sindh to Introduce Cambridge IGCSE Program in Government Schools – 2025 Education Update

The Sindh School Education and Literacy Department has announced plans to launch the Cambridge IGCSE program in selected government schools as a pilot project, marking a major step toward aligning public education with global academic standards.
The initiative, developed under an expanded partnership with Cambridge International, aims to provide students in public schools with access to internationally recognized qualifications that can open doors to better higher education and career opportunities.
A New Era for Public Education in Sindh
According to education officials, the introduction of the IGCSE curriculum will initially begin in a limited number of government schools across Sindh. The goal is to bridge the gap between private and public education and prepare students for modern academic and professional challenges.
Sindh Education Minister Sardar Shah, speaking at the Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards ceremony held in Karachi, said the province is committed to transforming public education through quality reforms and international collaborations.
He praised the outstanding performance of Pakistani students in Cambridge exams and emphasized the need for an education system that encourages creativity, innovation, and practical learning rather than rote memorization.
Celebrating Academic Excellence
The announcement was made during the award ceremony where 317 students from across Pakistan were recognized for exceptional achievement in Cambridge examinations. Out of these, students from Sindh and Balochistan secured 120 awards, including 26 for achieving the highest marks globally and 53 for topping their provinces.
Nationwide, Pakistani students earned 355 awards, with 83 for top marks worldwide and 63 for national distinctions, reflecting the growing academic excellence among learners in the country.
Cambridge International’s Response
Amanda Ingram, Director of Exams at Cambridge International, congratulated the students and appreciated their dedication to excellence. She highlighted that these achievements demonstrate the strength of Pakistan’s academic talent and the importance of continued support from schools and teachers.
Uzma Yousuf, Country Director at Cambridge International, noted that introducing the IGCSE program in Sindh’s public schools would empower more students to thrive in a technology-driven global environment.
She said Cambridge International is proud to work closely with the Sindh government to ensure every student gets equal opportunities to succeed regardless of their background.
Future Outlook
Officials from the Sindh Education Department confirmed that the IGCSE pilot phase will begin in select schools during the next academic year, after which the program may expand to more institutions based on results and feedback.
Education experts believe this step could significantly enhance Pakistan’s international education ranking by equipping public school students with globally competitive skills and critical thinking abilities.
Conclusion
The introduction of the Cambridge IGCSE program in Sindh’s government schools marks a progressive shift in Pakistan’s education policy. By bringing global learning standards into the public sector, the Sindh government aims to empower students from all backgrounds and create equal opportunities for academic excellence across the province.
